Dingle Bells
We'll be leaving Killarney the ghost town tomorrow. I give Killarney that blimmin' name since everything shuts down after 6 o'clock in the evening. Some Filipino dude I met at a Chinese take-out place mentioned that's it's a little more lively in the Summer, though. So you if you want to see more crowd, avoid traveling here in the Winter time. We could care less about this ourselves. We're in a happy mood anyway since we're on a vacation.
So,.. what was it for today?
We did a day trip to Dingle peninsula! We took Bus Eireann from Killarney bus station to Dingle, via Tralee -had to switch to a different bus in Tralee station. A return ticket was sold at 20.50 Euros/person, and if you're interested in the timetables please have a look online on its website http://www.buseireann.ie/. We took the earliest bus (number 40A) leaving from Killarney at 10.05 am. The trip to Tralee took about 40 minutes. At 11.30 am, we hopped on bus number 275 to Dingle; the bus arrived in the peninsula sharply at 12.40 pm.
Had a plate of over-priced fish and chips (15 Euros) at this restaurant called Ashes Bar in Dingle, and dear hubby ordered the same thing. It was pollock, that's why I thought it's overpriced. Would not have complained had it been something like.. well.. let's say at least cod. It was fairly good though, the very little tartar sauce that came with it was excellent.
The most fun thing about this trip would probably be enjoying the greenish scenery from inside the bus upon arriving in the peninsula. A herd of woolies (read: sheep) I saw every now and then on massive grassy fields caught my attention the most. This was something I had never seen elsewhere! Not just the fact that these sheep (note: plural for sheep remains 'sheep' without an s) eat grass and roam around freely, but they are EVERYWHERE! I saw them a lot on my left and right as we were rolling on the god damn bus. LOL. Man were they ever cute!! I adore you, Wacky Woolies!! :D
I would say, if you enjoy hiking on a trail and exploring nature you'll love staying on the peninsula. Dingle the town doesn't really offer much, though. There are shops, restaurants, cafes, a couple of churches -St. Mary & St James, which we walked past by, but activity-wise you can only go as far as checking out the Oceanworld Aquarium or the whale and bird watching on the peninsula. We did not really do any of these things, by the way. At first, we considered visiting the aquarium (an adult ticket's priced at 13 Euros). After seeing how small it was, I just felt like walking away. I just thought it wasn't worth the money. It's nothing like the Sea World in Jakarta.
We stopped by at a sporting good's store and a cafe for some hot chocolate this afternoon, and couldn't think of anything else to do there. Then it started sprinkling. The beautiful green view around us soon turned gloomy. We had to hop on the bus going back to Tralee then Killarney. The damn bus left at 2.50 PM.
Then woolies soon came to my sight, on my left and right. Couldn't be any happier than seeing a flock of them munching and lying around on that green grassy field! :D
