There's Something About Me & Buffet
Glen and I have always wondered about why some people enjoy staying at a resort and just sit by the beach for their entire, let’s say, two-week vacation. Resorts are cool. But we certainly would not want to linger there the whole frigging time. I mean, it’s a big world out there, Mate!
We didn’t really know that it’s coming to us. After planning to visit Bolivia for two weeks in September this year, we then landed in La Paz. Guess what?! I was without a visa, when I should have had one. Well, I did apply for a visa back in March, which was 6 months before my departure date, but the damn thing was just never materialized by the damn consulate. Our round-trip tickets to Bolivia were non-refundable so we just decided to give it a shot to see if they let us in. As expected, they didn’t.
Arriving back in Miami, I was thinking that it would be perfect to still go on a vacation somewhere else. Miami is a very versatile hub, lots of flights to many different destinations in South and Central America. Anyhow, the hubby argued that it would be a hassle, since we never really researched on accommodations in other countries in either South or Central America that we potentially would visit if we didn’t make it to see Bolivia -which we didn’t.
So that’ pretty much how we ended up agreeing on going to an all-inclusive resort on one of the Caribbean Islands; our Dominican Republic trip was decided overnight. We booked the trip to Puerto Plata for a week (09/04-09/11) online, and printed the confirmation sheets within the same hour. Sounds convenient, doesn’t it?; no other arrangements needed. It was raining that night and we had to walk a few blocks to get the printing job done. But we didn’t care. I definitely was too excited to learn that we were still going somewhere anyway.
I was immediately fascinated by the chocolate people (they’re mix of the African and the Spanish). Yes, that’s how they like to call themselves. I am not sure if it is the official way, but what the heck it sounds cute. By the way, Spanish is their national language; staying at a resort there was awesome cuz everyone who worked there spoke good English (I brought a Spanish pocket dictionary though, just in case).
Our resort, Blue Bay, was located right by Dorada beach, so we spent most of our times just chilling there. The beach was not as nice as the one in Gili Trawangan (assuming you’ve been there), but it was not bad either. Most importantly, we got to relax. It got very hot in Puerto Plate during the day (38 Celsius or so) so the beach-chilling-thing was mega.
The highlight of the trip was probably the total of two days where we got to visit San Felipe Fortress near downtown Puerto Plata. On the other day, we took a little trip to Paradise Island. It’s a little land in the middle of the sea; it’s there during the day but gets washed away by the water and disappears in the evening. IT WAS GORGEOUS (despite the damn heat), THE WATER THERE WAS CRYSTAL CLEAR!!
However, what I was impressed the most about this trip was actually the main buffet at Blue Bay. I know this sounds stupid but I’m telling you the truth lol. The feeding was just never-ending and the food was just delicious; you can also get as much drinks as you want at any of their pool-side bars.
Maybe I would not mind going on another all-inclusive resort vacation, God willing!!
